Prayer to Saint Andrew ~ Apostle, Patron of Fishermen

Saint Andrew, as the first apostle
to recognize and follow Jesus,
we pray that you will always lead us to Him.
Teach us to lead others to Christ
out of love and dedication to Him.
Help us to learn the lesson of the Cross
and to carry our daily crosses without complaint,
so that they may carry us to Jesus.
Amen.

A Prayer for Our Nation —Written by Rev. Billy Graham

Heavenly Father,
we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance.
We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,'
but that is exactly what we have done.
We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.
We have abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from sin and set us free. Amen

May this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire
so that we once again can be called 'One nation under God'!

Prayer for our Troops

Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace,
as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for
the liberty we possess,
we ask You to bless the members of our armed forces.
Give them courage, hope and strength.
May they ever experience Your firm support,
gentle love and compassionate healing.
Be their power and protector,
leading from darkness to light.
Amen.

Memorial Day Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

With a sober heart we come before You this Memorial
Day to pause and call to mind all the men and women
who have died in the service of our nation.
Please look with mercy on our brave and selfless brothers
and sisters, who did not shirk from their task but gave
themselves completely to the cause of defending and
protecting us all. Bless all who have given their lives for
the sake of liberty, and grant them eternal rest with You.
We remember also our brave men and women now
serving in our Armed Forces, both at home and abroad.
Send out Your angels to protect them all. Help them
discharge their duties honorably and well. Bring them
safely home to their families and loved ones. Please
bring Your peace and mercy to our troubled world.
We ask this in Your name. Amen
.

(Memorial Day was first observed on May 30, 1868,
when flowers were placed at the graves of Union and
Confederate soldiers. On this day we honor all who
have died in service of our nation.)

Prayer for Sandy Hook Elementary —Written by Cameo Smith, Mt. Wolf, PA

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.

They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"This is heaven." declared a small boy. "We're spending Christmas at God's house."

When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.

And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.

And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."
then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe

Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"May this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"

Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"Come now my children, let me show you around."
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.

And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

New Evangelization Prayer

Heavenly Father, Pour forth your Holy Spirit to inspire me with these words from Holy Scripture. Stir in my soul the desire to renew my faith and deepen my relationship with your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ so that I might truly believe in and live the Good News. Open my heart to hear the Gospel and grant me the confidence to proclaim the Good News to others. Pour out your Spirit, so that I might be strengthened to go forth and witness to the Gospel in my everyday life through my words and actions.

In moments of hesitation, remind me:
— If not me, then who will proclaim the Gospel?
— If not now, then when will the Gospel be proclaimed?
— If not the truth of the Gospel, then what shall I proclaim?

God, our Father, I pray that through the Holy Spirit I might hear the call of the New Evangelization to deepen my faith, grow in confidence to proclaim the Gospel and boldly witness to the saving grace of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Family Prayer for the Year of Faith

O God our Father,
in Jesus you call all
Christian families and homes
to be signs of living faith.
By the light of the Holy Spirit,
lead us to be thankful for the gift of faith,
and by that gift may we grow
in our relationship with Jesus, your Son,
and be confident witnesses to
Christian hope and joy to all we meet.
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
